We Forgive not Forget

There are several topics people don’t like to talk about…and I’m not talking about sex, drugs and politics. From an early age we don’t teach or talk about many subjects and it has an unseen negative impact on the psyche of all people…at least in the form of stress. Here are just a few topics we don’t cover: conflict, death and grieving, humility or forgiveness and many more. Forgiveness is a topic that also has a role with leadership. Here are 10 things to consider, as a leader, when it comes to forgiveness...

  1. If we are humble and know we make mistakes, we will look to be forgiven many times in our life. If this is the case we can better understand how others would want to be forgiven as well

  2. Remember that people who were hurt will end up hurting other people

  3. If we do not take care of our own trauma will take it out on others

  4. We judge ourselves by our intentions and we judge other people by their behaviors, not fair

  5. Forgiveness is important to find peace in our own hearts

  6. Resentment is like someone taking poison and then waiting for the other person to die

  7. Forgiveness can be a reset to a relationship and/or be a jumpstart to something new

  8. You don’t have to actually speak to the other person to forgive them if circumstances warrant it

  9. It is vitally important to forgive yourself

  10. Modeling forgiveness is a great lesson for others to learn from, younger leaders and others as well

Forgiveness can lighten the feeling in your chest, be the relief valve we need for tough relationships or circumstances that can frustrate and anger us when not at our best. If we see the power of forgiveness we are more likely to welcome the concept on your personal and leadership journey.

Much love and have a great week!

All my best,

Dave
