Stay Out of the Fishbowl?!

There is a lot of wild and wacky stuff happening and it will continue, with no breaks, probably forever. Wha Wha? Yup, I said it. Consider everything merging at one time on us: AI, elections, aliens (?), Disease X, robots, terrorism, and so much more. Sooo…what does that mean for our own personal mental health…all of us? Well, my offering is that you start to see things like a fishbowl. This is a powerful, emotional boundary system that encourages you to to look at life’s totality, or a section of it, or a situation as if you were OUTSIDE the fishbowl looking in. What does that mean and why is it helpful? Well, I’ll tell ya:

What does it mean?

  • Like a fishbowl you are outside of everything going on inside

  • If you want to interact within the fishbowl, you reach in like a cat would…or if you really want in just become another creature inside the glass rectangle

  • It means that you can put an invisible barrier in between you and the craziness you see around you in whatever context.

  • It means you can better disconnect from the impact and interaction of whatever negativity is going on inside.

Why is it helpful?

  • You get to disassociate from and quick internalizing the feelings of the chaos in the bowl

  • You get to observe at whatever level of desire without having to interact with the inside

  • You get to be better prepared because you see what is inside and can take non-emotional actions to improve your situation.

  • You get to remain free from unwanted entanglements created by the insiders who do not have  your best interests or feelings at heart

  • You get to still care without all the negative emotional zingers that get thrown at/near you inside it

  • You get to help create better balance between what you can control and what you cannot

I have used a different and similar version of the fishbowl in training on all subjects, especially sensitive topics with great success. This is just another version of the tool. And, it really seems to work. Remember, you can always jump in the bowl if you need to get more invested, involved and take action. In this case, I suggest it be when issues you can actually control come about. For the rest of it, take a break and watch it unfold without any emotional or physical impact on your body.

Much love and all my best!

Dave
