One of my favorite things that is really funny (you will be the judge of that) is something that doesn’t happen on a regular basis when doing zoom presentations. If you have never seen me present before, I use a lot of humor and some joke slides to keep things moving and fun. One of my particular jokes is used for the conclusion and it always crushes…I mean how many clean jokes that most people will find funny are there? This joke I once told during a Keynote speech and there were 400 people in the audience. My biggest group size so far. Imagine for a moment…the laughter of a group that size, of everyone at the same time. It is still one of the best sounds I remembered to store in my head.
Now, you are going to give a presentation to 400 people and then try to end with a joke?! Better be funny! Phew. Now, imagine trying to do that same thing over a zoom presentation…let that settle.
Now back to a favorite thing I mentioned at the start. When you consider this digital presentation format, imagine how silent but funny an amazing joke goes over when everyone is On MUTE!!!
I love watching all the laughing faces with no sound. Obviously the ‘payoff’ of hearing everyone laugh is better when I get to hear it and they get to hear it…and their colleagues all get to hear it. Yet there is something very unique about watching 3, 5, 20, 50 or more laughing with no sound. It is different, yet something I really value.
So, who wants to try and tell a joke in front of 400 of your closest strangers? You can do it!! (check the joke out with some friends before you let it fly, fyi).
Have a great week!
Much love and all the best!
Dave
