Remember, when you look at a mosaic to focus and notice how each tiny piece comes together to form a greater, unified picture. To only look at the picture with this type of art is to completely understate the value each different piece brings to the whole. The concept of seeing the big picture, the mosaic, is an important one…especially when it comes to recognizing the truth about what is going on in our society or an individual situation that, in reality, is directly in front of our eyes.
Today, we are inundated with data from various sources, each representing their own version of the truth. With so much commotion and uncertainty, it can be tricky to perceive what is real and what is not. However, if we take a step back, put together individual nuggets like puzzle pieces on any subject, we can find our way into the big picture. We can see “the” truth that has been right in front of us all along. Just like a mosaic, reality is made up of many smaller pieces that, when put together, form a more comprehensive and truthful picture. It may take some effort to piece together all the information, but doing so can help us see our reality more clearly. Remember, we will likely never have all the information, which is why we need to create the mosaic. It is enough of a full picture to understand, even if it isn’t the 100% entire story.
It's important to note that seeing the mosaic is not about blindly believing the information presented to us. Instead, it's about critically analyzing the information and considering all perspectives. Is it a puzzle piece or not? By doing so, we can form a more complete understanding of the truth (and even see how some other’s perspectives may fit in with more accuracy than we previously thought).
By taking a step back and examining all of the information presented to us in any kind of workplace, personal, social or societal example, we can patch together a more honest understanding of the truth. Consider this: next time you're faced with conflicting information, remember to look at the bigger picture and see put together the mosaic. Get more data. If needed, collect the pieces of the puzzle that are needed to get a larger, more 10,000ft. perspective before taking action. The truth we need may be right in front of our eyes.
