I thought it would be interesting (and a little entertaining) to look and see what the actual jobs were that were listed when you put conflict resolution in for a job search on Linked In. I think the list is very telling, in two ways. First it means that these organizations are either being honest or not about the levels of conflict someone would face at that job. A job that in its title may or may not sound like conflict is on the regular. Secondly, it means that conflict resolution is going to be a part of all because we are dealing with people. So, what’s the list?
Bank Teller (yea, guess there is a lot of potential for conflict with this one)
Recruiting
Events Services Manager
Employee Relations
Housing Locator
Assistant Controller
Senior Transmission Engineer
Labor Relations
School Counselor
HR
Executive Director
Managing Chef
Manager of Systems Technician
Commercial Property Manager
Organizational Development
Business Partner
Think about dentists, doctors, teachers, lawyers, truck drivers, delivery personnel, garbage collectors to government to construction. There is conflict everywhere.
The list goes on and on. If you experience conflict in your workplace than you know it is something that has to be addressed and prevented, managed by pro-active behaviors and skilled conversations for resolution. If we know conflict is unavoidable, then getting better at the skills to deal with it will set us up for when it finds us (or we make it.)
Wishing you all the best and much love!
Dave
