So we are the only animals that don’t think of themselves as animals. Of course, the point being that even though we are the only animals blessed with the gift to realize this…we don’t.
Maybe we should stop giving ourselves so much credit at being humans, think about it, we are only 3% points away from the DNA of an Orangatan. I mean, really, compare quality of life for the average orangang and it’s society and the human being and it’s society. Reality is, we both live in the jungle. Percentage wise, discounting those who have been forcible been put into a zoo, I think the apes are more happy.
The apes jungle has it’s own rules, archetypally imposed for thousands of years, and every other animal/mammal in the world, seems to “get it” and know it’s place. Humans on the other hand need rules to ensure that in our jungle we don’t trample the weak, innocent, unknowing, apathetic, or simple…yet, we had to establish a set of rules to live by because we were always killing, robbing, raping, pillaging, and enslaving each other. (If you research you will see that sex trafficking alone enslaves more women and children than can fit in most stadiums.) As far as I know, apes and other animals don’t do this. Who has more freedom? Who has more ability? Who truly is more intelligent, given the predisposed potentials?
Reading the news and being overwhelmed with the many crummy parts we have created for ourselves, even in the most free and “best” country in the world has millions of us animals who know we are heading in the wrong direction, with very little that can be done about it…this is a train that is out of control, heading down tracks at killer speeds while we toss our own overboard and allow our leaders to take vacation while hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs, part of their jobs, income, ability to pay mortgage payments, school, insurance, child support (don’t forget we have a 50-60% divorce rate and now over 30 percent of our children are born out of wedlock…I think that number is actually higher) and much more. Smart? Ape. Human. Hmmm.
We have so over emphasized freedom and self-esteem that we are now growing a society with that is obese and oblivious, and, has an attitude problem. Because self-esteem and personal empowerment has now become the new fuel source to not having to try to collaborate, or an excuse to be an ass at a meeting, or speak to a colleague or loving partner with disgust fitting of, I don’t know, I was going to say ape….but, I don’t even think they do that. We often struggle with the most basic things we do…is it any wonder that we have conflict in the workplace? What would the animals say if we were the ones in the zoo and they had our “intelligence?”
